My sons gave my husband Rudy’s portrait tonight for Father’s Day and, as I expected, when he opened it, he actually could not speak and walked out of the room to compose himself. When he returned and finally tried to speak, he said that he had never in his whole life received a gift that meant so much. He said that it was “exactly” Rudy. He also told the boys “I know how much I complain and get on your backs for everything but this is the best present in the world that you could have given me”. He also said he never expected anything that would have meant so much to him. He sensed our excitement in the previous weeks and even questioned “what makes you so sure I am going to love this gift”? He said tonight it far exceeded just loving it.

Guy, you would have to see my husband to understand. He is a big man, tattooed head to toe, bald head and strives to carry a tough man image. Unbelievable by many, he is a more caring, sensitive, giving, and loving human being I have ever known.

He wishes to extend his heartfelt thanks to you for honoring his best friend. He said he has been more upset over losing Rudy then even any previous loss of a person. You have been such an inspirational part of my life through the last couple months. I also had the pleasure of informing my husband that, not only was this artist the most skilled, most kind and an absolute pleasure to work with; this portrait was drawn with love, pride and a driving desire to honor a loved one. I always enjoy seeing that you are in my “Inbox” when I open my mail. I was struck by something that you just wrote that I never gave thought to — giving your original artwork away. Do you realize how much that expresses you and the commitment you reach for in your portraits? Even though you do not personally know or have any attachment to your subjects, you unbelievably take every effort to become
their spirit, emotion, expression and loving memory. From Day 1, you never made me feel like a “customer” that is why my only fear comes when you are finished [with] my portrait and our communication ends.

My main reason of writing was to let you know that I received Maggie’s portrait safe and sound today. Guy, it is more incredible in person than even the amazing preview you sent. I printed this off on 4×6 photo paper and showed it to my wife. She just absolutely loved it. I also emailed it to my sister and she was amazed! Both of them could not believe how much it looked like each of the dogs. They would be even more amazed if they knew the pictures I sent to you to choose from. Given the inferior quality of the photos I sent, it is a testimonial to your ability as an artist to look past the flaws in the photos and come up with such a quality product. Then, too, to even insert a background like you did. Masterful job. This is what I envisioned when I thought about doing a portrait.

My family is the one who had the great fortune and honor to receive the painting you did of our 5 children at Disney. My husband’s uncle presented it to us a few days after Christmas and I have to say that it is the best gift my husband and I have ever received. We are waiting until spring to have it framed, but my husband has hung it up temporarily so it will be safe, and every day I walk by it, I stop and literally stare for minutes. It is just so amazing that it brings me to tears.This painting captures my children far better than even the original photo does. Disney is our family’s favorite place, and now I will not only associate our painting with my children being captured in time by your incredible artwork, but will also remember a lot of fond memories of our trips as the years go by. Guy, I am overjoyed! Thank you so much. My mom was home from the hospital, so she was the one waiting for the painting to be delivered. I didn’t tell her what was being shipped. Then, my husband and I arrived home around the same time. So, after I waited for my husband to change clothes I opened the painting and he was absolutely amazed at the painting. I had only given him snippets of having found an artist, and getting the painting done when I had him package the ashes and send….so he was extremely surprised. I had never described the painting to him. We were all choked up, with tears in our eyes. Then we walked to my mother’s room carrying the painting saying “Happy Mother’s Day.” Her eyes got SO wide. It was such a surprise. She started crying so hard. Brian was her first grandchild and they had a very special relationship. When we lived in California (before my mom’s stroke) he used to send her several round trip tickets a year to come out and visit us. Anyway, she was crying so hard that my husband and I started crying again. Then I told her this painting has Brian’s ashes woven in the way he had wanted me to do….and the floodgates opened for all of us. My mother and I were overwhelmed with heavy choking sounds. You really are the instrument that enabled me to carry out my son’s last wish. Many years ago, the first time he told me he wanted to be cremated, he told me not to grieve, just to put some of his ashes in a painting that I would like to keep forever. That way he would really remain a part of our lives for as long as we lived.

We hung the painting in the dining room. Everyone that comes in the house goes through the dining room to get to the kitchen, the deck and outside, or to go downstairs to the family room. A perfect spot for everyone to see and admire the painting. Already we see the effect of Brian’s eyes in the painting. They appear to be looking at you no matter where you are in the room. My mother got on one side of the room. I got on the opposite side. And, my husband was at a different angle in the room, and EACH of us felt as though he was looking just at that one individual! As always, the letter you sent was so typical of all of your warm and sensitive correspondence. I would LOVE for you to put a photo of Brian’s painting on your website. I am honored that you would like to. Since I will never be blessed with grandchildren, you will single handedly help Brian live on in constant memory for those of us who loved him so dearly.

You are a great artist and sensitive man. The kind of soul that we hope all artists are. I am pleased that we were able to give you the kind of admiration you and your work deserves. You and your rendition of Brian and I has certainly brought joy to our lives.

My interaction with you over these past weeks has been a wonderful experience. One that I will
